This short video relatively simply explains how fungi act as a network connecting trees in a forest ecosystem to facilitate the sharing of nutrients from tree to tree through a mycorrhizal relationship that also allows the fungi and an individual tree to share nutrients for mutual benefit. To me this is the key process, along with the role of fungi in breaking down organic matter into soil, by which the forest ecosystem thrives and is able to support all the other life associated with it.
